Dope tape this one. Spinbad is one of those DJs that always puts in a bit of extra effort with his mixes. Highlights include the Nas blend over Foxy's 'Get Me Home', the 'Daytona 500' remix and the "tossed salad" skit. Flipping the acapella of 'The Cypher pt 3' over the original 'Symphony' beat is nice aswell.

DJ Enuff - Hip Hop Vol 2 (1993)
Another one out of the Tobes' collection. This is from the era when the tapes were more for showcasing the DJ rather than promoting an artist/label etc so you get a mix of new and old stuff and a load of breaks being cut up on side 2.
Just a warning that the last track on side A is the rather annoying 'Freaks' by Lil Vicious and it seems to go on for ever. I think Enuff plays it twice just to fill up the end of the tape.

LL Cool J live at Chuck Chillout's birthday party (1990)
This past weekend I was fortunate enough to meet up with the homie Tobes who was generous enough to hook me up with a stack of tapes from the early 90s containing all sorts of treats, and first up out of the collection is this gem.
LL performing live at Chuck Chillout's birthday party back in 1990 is pretty dope in itself. He rocks 'To Da Break Of Dawn' over Keni Burke's 'Rising To The Top'. You're downloading already right?
He follows that with a new joint that to my knowledge is still unreleased (some quick tweets to J Zone, DJ Rhude & the DWG boys seem to confirm this). Its a tough 'Amen Brother' sampling track that I've named 'She's Rockin'. As far as I can tell its the full studio version being played off a DAT, with LL intermittently rhyming on top of the vocal track. My theory is that it might have sounded a bit dated in comparison to the rest of the 'Mama Said Knock You Out' LP so it got shelved. Anyway, here you go...
Because I'm nice, I've included 3 seperate files: one for each of the 2 tracks, and one with whole thing.
Before anyone asks, no I dont have anymore from that night than what's here.

Rap Thangs That Shoulda Done Happened
#1 - Black Rob should've been on 'All About The Benjamins' instead of Sheek Louch or Lil Kim. Not hating on either of their verses but in 96-97 no-one's removing Biggie or Jada off a track so someone's got to bounce. That beat would've suited Rob down to the ground.
#2 - Ice Cube would've stayed in NWA, released 'Amerikkka's Most Wanted', appeared on 'Efil4Zaggin' and then left the group. This scenario ensures we still get AMW and 'No Vaseline' aswell as Cube over beats like 'Appetite For Destruction'. '100 Miles And Running' would have appeared on AMW as the posse cut ala 'The Grand Finale' on The DOC's album.
#3 - Suge Knight never bails 2Pac out of jail and as a result the beats for 'Ambitionz Az A Ridah', 'California Love' and 'Hail Mary' all end up on Kurupt's solo album, which features Daz, Snoop, Rage etc, and is to 'The Chronic' what 'Only Built For Cuban Linx' is to '36 Chambers'.
More as and when they come to me. Suggestions welcome.
I was lucky enough to be given a fat stack of golden era tapes yesterday. Looks like there's lots of treats in there so keep checking back as they'll begin to appear over the next few weeks.
Also, I'm on Kane FM tonight from 9-11pm (UK time) playing old rap music. Come join me if you can.

Kay Slay on Hot 97 (2004)
I recorded this on a trip to NYC in 2004, back when East Coast rap wasnt a dirty word. 'Lean Back', 'Why' and 'Breathe' were all in heavy rotation on daytime radio and G Unit, Dipset, Rocafella and D- Block were still forces to be reckoned with.
Here we find the DJ formerly known as Dezzy Dezz in the studio with guests Black Rob and The Alchemist.
Before showcasing Robert and Alan's new material (which may or may not include a still unreleased BR track - can anyone confirm?), Kay drops newies by Fat Joe, Lloyd Banks, Dipset, Jon Doe & Papoose, Frankie Krutches and Canibus aswell as that T.I. '99 Problems' joint dissing Lil Flip.

DJ Enki - A Tribute To Large Professor (2012)
An hour's worth of The Live Guy With Glasses by DJ Enki out of Oakland...
This mix is a tribute to one of my biggest influences in hip-hop and one of the greatest producers of all time. It contains an hour's worth of Large Pro beats and rhymes, original samples, and special blends, covering his career from his debut single up to his latest album and shining the spotlight on some of his lesser-known work. The Professor definitely schools people with his music; this is my take on his curriculum vitae.

Lots of good stuff on this - Mobb Deep, Lord Finesse, Chill Rob G, Goodie Mob, Special Ed, OC, Luniz, 2Pac (not that I ever need to hear 'California Love' again), Smoothe Da Hustler, Wu Tang, Greg Nice and more. Westwood also has a sudden attack of the "Iggedys" around about 40 minutes into part two which is mildly amusing.
During the show he mentions the previous weekend's Christmas party and as luck would have it, last week someone just happened to send me the recording of the live broadcast, so here you go...

theres more to life than rap music pt.2
Just over a year ago I dropped a post with a few non-Hip Hop mixes. The picture that accompanied it was responsible for a significant amount of hits in the following months so I thought that if I was going to do again it was only right we gave Victoria Moore (her above with the guns/expression combo) some more time to shine. Anyway, as I just re-upped all the links on the aforementioned post here's the second installment...
DJ Benny B out of Brooklyn just put together this House/Nu Disco mix of 20 R&B/Hip-Hop/Disco influenced tracks from the past year GO HERE
If you like that kind of thing check my peoples Groove Motion for some cheeky re-edits and original tracks. Tell 'em I sent you.
Finally, if you pine for the days when Drum & Bass nights weren't full of students wearing Vans and shutter shades and remember a time when Radio 1 DJs wouldnt touch a jungle tune with a license payer's bargepole, then you might enjoy the stack of tapes I've ripped recently:
DJ Hype @ Helter Skelter: Energy 96
The first rave I went to and one of the best sets I've ever heard. MC MC & GQ on mic duties and all the big tunes of the year on this one. Still get goosebumps when I bump this.
DJ Hype with Stevie Hyper D @ One Nation 'Biggest & Best' 1996
Hype was killing it back then and Stevie Hyper D never disappointed
Brockie with MC Det & Navigator on Kool FM 1993
&
DJ Ash & Brockie on Kool FM with MCs Det & Navigator
Original London pirate style!
Ed Rush & Optical @ One Nation 2001
One of the best sets of the era. Proper tearout business and not for the faint hearted.
Fatman D, 5ive 0, Skibadee & Shabba D on the mic (Shabba annihilates 'Galactic Jam' on this)
DJ Die with MC Det & Shabba @ Innovation's 8th Birthday (2002)
More Shabba. This was another favourite back in the day.
I'm still working through all the old posts and re-upping everything. Hoping to have it all back to normal by the end of the year. If there's anything you want in the meantime then holla.
Also, I'm still doing my thing on Kane FM but I'm just doing once month (every 4th Sunday) for now. May well be back to fortnightly in a few months so stay tuned.

DJ J Live - Homemade Blends Vol 1 (2002)
Interesting blend CD by J Live (yep, the underground rapper dude), dropping 80s and 90s R&B acapellas over newer Hip Hop instrumentals. Some slightly unusual choices of beats on certain tracks but overall its executed pretty well. Shyne - Tim Westwood freestyle (1999)
More Bad Boy ish. Shyne spits something for Tim Westwood back in '99...
I was never completely sold on Shyne when he first came out but he had a few decent tracks on that first album, mainly the singles 'Bad Boys' and 'Thats Gangsta'. I was in NY when his second one dropped (while he was in prison if I remember right) and the hype was ridiculous. The jail sentence had elevated him from "competent rapper that sounds a bit like Biggie" to "da riliss in da streetz, yo!" but the lead single was called 'Jimmy Choo' for fucks sake. There was also a joint using the 'Verbal Intercourse' beat which I cant find anywhere. Could've been a mixtape thing I guess. If anyone knows what I'm on about hook me up. I dont like the way P Diddy did Shyne with different lawyers either.

Black Rob ft The LOX 'Can I Live'
unreleased version (1999)
What you know about an alternative version of one of Bad Boy's finest moments with a different Black Rob verse? Hopefully the answer to that question is a blank stare and not "its on the Japanese import of 'Life Story'" because as far as I know this has never been put out there before.
BR's verse on the album version is a personal favourite of mine (especially that "my night time prowess in grimey after-hours/Karl Kani, Mau Malone wear, Eddie Bauers bit") so I wouldnt say this is necessarily better but I know The Internet is always down to hear some rare unreleased 90s business, so you can add this to the list of shit you done heard here first. If anyone knows the background on this get at me. I did tweet Rob about it but havent heard back as yet.

Mediafire are fucking cunts
As suspected, my account got locked. Some dude called Billy who claimed to be representing 20th Century Fox contacted Mediafire and asked they remove a Redman & Method Man freestyle recorded off BBC Radio 1 in 1999. As with previous takedown requests, Mediafire cant actually be fucked to investigate whether the claim holds any weight, so they do as they're told, issue me with my '3rd strike' and lock the account without warning.
As a result, you wont be able to download most of the material on this site, despite the fact that I'd guess 95% of it isn't commercially available.
I might get round to re-upping it on Sendspace or Zippyshare at some point but with 432 posts to get through, thats obviously going to take a lot of time.
If you come across something you want in particular email me at changetheflow@hotmail.com and I'll try and hook it up. Don't ask for 20 things all at once though.

The Infinite Hip Hop Show (25.08.12)
Fully aware that I haven't posted anything since the last show 2 weeks ago but there's been sunshine, birthdays and all sorts of other business to deal with.
Also, Mediafire are being fucking idiots and acting on DCMA-related complaints from cowboy fuckers like these, who basically collate a list of random links, send mediafire a notice to remove them for copyright infrigement and then charge their clients, claiming that said links were for material they owned. So far, I'm on 2 strikes (a DJ S&S mixtape from 1996 and a Method Man & Redman radio freestyle FFS) so there's quite a large possiblity that at some point some cunt in an office in France will decide to charge Warner Bros for the removal of a link they have nothing to do with, and that will be the end of this Kid Capri mixtape.
I'll be persevering with caution in the meantime but will try and drop a couple of treats this week.

Dogg Pound 'Niggaz Dont Give A Fuck'
unreleased remix (1993/94)
So it turns out I fucked up a bit on the post below. I thought I'd uploaded the tape rip of this track, recorded from an old Westwood show, but in fact I'd posted a considerably better quality version. Its doesnt seem to be quite CDQ, but its full length and considerably better than whats come before it. I can't remember exactly how I got this but I have a feeling it was on a compilation of Death Row rarieties I downloaded from somewhere.
Oh and if you dont have the original version then go get that. Its on the Poetic Justice OST. Shout out to Tobes

All I Need (aka unreleased & unobtainable 90s heat)
The JS-1 mix that dropped today pre-empted a post I've been meaning to do for a while. With the advent of blogs, youtube, forums and Discogs it's been alot easier than it used to be to get hold of rare/unreleased music. However, there's still a handful of tracks that only seem to exist by way of tape rips, or with DJ tags on them. Here's the ones I'm looking for (ideally full versions in CDQ, but I'd settle for just better quality than what I've got)
Charlie 'C-Boogie' Brown 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me' (1995)
This uses the same beat as Craig Mack's 'Makin Moves With Puff' which makes me wonder if thats why it never came out. I heard Westwood play it once. One of the good folk at the TROY forum hooked me u with this tape rip a few years ago. There's no mention of it online as far as I can tell (unless its actually called something else).
Dogg Pound 'Niggaz Dont Give A Fuck' remix (1993/94)
Extremely dope remix, heard once on Westwood's show and later resurfaced on Rare Dave's infamous mixtape. I'd guess sample problems might have got this one shelved. It would've sounded right at home on 'Doggystyle' or the 'Above The Rim' soundtrack though. UPDATE 26/07: turns out this version is actually pretty good quality. I forgot I had it and thought I was uploading the tape rip
Big Kap & Rev Run 'Yaknowhumsayin' (1999)
No idea what the correct title is but it sounds like it should've dropped on AV8 or Buds. Kap and Run do a call and response party joint over the same sample Jazzy Jeff used on Brand New Funk. Again, this was heard on Westwood. Once.
Freddie Foxx, Tragedy, Cool Whip, Raekwon & Havoc 'Lets Be Specific' (1996)
A bit of an anomally in this list as its available on the first Funkmaster Flex '60 Minutes Of Funk' mixtape, but I'm obviously after the full version. I'm reliably informed its on a Crib Underground 12", although unfortunately its not listed on Discogs.
So there it is. Any artists, label execs or people in the know that have more info on any of these or, better yet, can actually hook me up with a copy (MP3 or otherwise) get in touch!

DJ Step One -
The Infinite Hip Hop Show 14.07.12
This past Saturday night's show was a 90s Special, where I kicked things off with some 3rd Bass and Nikki D and worked my way through to 99/2000, taking in all sorts of treats in between.
Catch the show live every other Saturday from 6-8pm (UK time). Who else is playing Akinyele and Juvenile on a legal station at peak time?
