Red Alert on Kiss 98.7 FM (1994)

Kool DJ Red Alert in the mix on Kiss 98.7 FM back in '94. Like the other Red tapes I've heard, there's no talking (and even some of the drops are pretty quiet) but the selection is on point. I've taken a guess at the date, based partly on the 30 minutes of a Flex Street Jams show on the same tape. Liking that Markey Fresh track produced by 45 King. Not heard it before but going to seek that out.

tracklist
Kenny Dope - Get On Down
Masta Ace - Born To Roll
Kurious - I'm Kurious
Da King & I - Tears
Outkast - Player's Ball
Fat Joe - The Shit Is Real (DJ Premier remix)
Domino - Sweet Potatoe Pie
Maestro Fresh Wes - Certs Wid Out Da Retsyn
Ice Cube - You Know How We Do It
Snoop Dogg - Gin & Juice
Jeru The Damaja - D Original
Markey Fresh - On The Real

Radio 1 Rap Show 10.03.00 with P Diddy and Tony Touch

Puff Daddy and, erm, Tori from WWE are in the studio for part one. There's a nice Tony Touch mix in part 2 and a cosy chat with Fabio about London's club scene in the 80s towards the end of the show.

This thing Westwood had for getting wrestlers on the show around 2000-2002 is a bit weird.

Capital Rap Show 03.12.94 with Funkmaster Flex

New York Rap Exchange from December '94 and the last show before Westwood bounced to Radio 1. Shook Ones part 2 is on it's way to ubiquity at this point, and Group Home's 'Supastar' isn't far behind. This tape is the one that put me on to 'Spread It' by Kamakaze and Rayvon's 'Pretty' and also includes the remix of 'What Can I Do' which might be the last great Ice Cube track. You also get the dope freestyle session with Scarface, KRS One and MC Serch (which has appeared on this blog a couple of times over the years), and Charlie Brown of LONS' unreleased solo shot 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me'...

tracklist

Mobb Deep  - Shook Ones pt 2

Dave Pearce - Fresh Start To The Week on Nite FM (May 88)

Before it was Greater London Radio, BBC Radio London broadcast it's specialist evening shows under the 'Nite FM' brand. Dave Pearce held down the Fresh Start To The Week rap show and here's 30 minutes from May '88. Salt N Pepa, Antoinette, Gang Starr, Run DMC and Hijack are on the playlist and Stetsasonic are the studio guests (except that isn't on the tape unfortunately). Nice to hear shout outs to the Farnborough crew what with that being the new OB4ZL HQ and all.

Shouts to Diablo for the tape and MK for the radio knowledge.

DJ Filthy Rich - Enta Da Stage

Nas & Mobb Deep freestyle (1995)

Nas and Mobb Deep from the January 1995 Rap Exchange show. I was missing a chunk of this for years as my tape ran out half way through the recording. Someone (I forget who, but thanks) hooked it up on a forum a while back so here's 10 minutes of prime QB raps over the Shook Ones pt 2 instrumental.

Diablo's collection is still throwing up some great Capital Rap Show tapes. This one has the original version of 'Outta Here' with the Mr Magic dis and a few deep cuts by the likes of Strickly Roots, Trends Of Culture and Juice With Soul. Strange one this. Official retail CD by DJ Enuff released in France with a mix of underground joints and a few French artists thrown in alongside some early 50 Cent material and freestyles by Diamond D, Negro League and Natural Elements
