Tracey Lee, The Reepz, A+, Canibus & McGruff
'Universal MC' (1996)

With the impending house move ever nearing, the vinyl cull is under way. Whilst going through the shelves, I came across this bootleg that I picked up a few years ago on the strength of Biggie & The LOX's mixtape classic 'You'll See' (the original 12" being pretty scarce on these shores but I found it eventually). I overlooked this posse cut with Tracey Lee, A+, Canibus and McGruff at the time, but it's definitely worth copping if you see it for a decent price...

I hit up Tracey Lee on twitter and he couldn't remember who did the beat but confirmed it was a promo only joint. As far as I can tell it only exists in official form on this Universal Records CD, so I'd say it qualifies as unreleased heat. Enjoy.

Canibus '2nd Round Knockout'
Live for Kiss FM London (1998)

Following my re-up of the Marley Marl remix of '2nd Round Knockout' , Crate Digga has come through with this tape rip of Canibus on Max LX & Dave VJ's Kiss FM Rap Show. They play what seems to be a live version (with full band) of the infamous LL dis, with some additional lyrics at the end...

Eightball ft Canibus, DMX & McGruff 'Pure Uncut Raw' (1998)

Staying on the white label tip, this is something I'd been after ever since I heard it back in 98 on the Mastermind mixtape I posted recently. Its not an easy find on the net and as far as I can tell it never received an official release. It was only earlier this year that I chanced upon the 12" you see above.

8Ball isn't someone who's catalogue I'm familiar with but this appears to be a remix (its listed as 'Part 2' on the Mastermind tape) of a track from one of his solo albums. A nice dark beat featuring Canibus and DMX when they were at their peak and the always reliable Herb McGruff make this one worth checking out.

Canibus - 100 Bars freestyle (1999)

I've no idea if this has appeared on the net before but I found it on DJ Clue's 'Cant Impeach The President 99' mixtape. Canibus does what he does best and spits pure non-stop punchlines and battle raps for about 5 minutes.

Canibus - Tony Touch freestyle

The other Canibus posts I dropped were pretty popular so heres 2 freestyles from around 97-98. Both are off a 4 track white label that I cant find any info on, but the first one is taken from a Tony Touch tape, the second one I'm not so sure. They're fairly short but definitely worth checking.

Unreleased Marley Marl remixes - Canibus & LL Cool J

Whilst ripping a tape of Marley Marl on Westwood I came across these 2 remixes he did that never saw the light of day (as far as I know).
He's revamped Canibus' legendary dis track '2nd Round Knockout' and LL's response 'The Ripper Strikes Back'. Both are improvements on the originals but according to Marley industry politics prevented them getting an official release.
If anyone knows if they were bootlegged or if full versions exist then let me know!

'2nd Round Knockout' (Marley Marl remix)

I'll be posting up the full 90 minutes of the tape these were taken from soon.

Canibus, DMX & Noreaga - Hot 97 freestyle

As promised here’s the Canibus, DMX and Noreaga freestyle session from Hot 97. Its from late 97/early 98 when these 3 were about to drop their highly anticipated solo debuts.
This period was something of a changing of the guard in Hip Hop. Biggie had died, Death Row had lost Dre and 2Pac, Jay Z and Nas had just released slightly disappointing albums and Eminem was yet to blow up. The time was right for new artists to come through. Unfortunately Canibus could never really get his beat selection on point (possibly due to hanging out with Wyclef too much), DMX was huge for a while and then lost the plot completely and Noreaga managed some solid material but then decided Reggaeton was the future.
Anyway, this is heavy. Flex is on the tables cutting up a load of classic breaks for them to rhyme over. It went on a bit longer than the 30 minutes here but my tape ran out.

Canibus - DJ Clue freestyle

Its hard to believe now that Canibus' debut album was one of the most anticipated releases of the late 90s. This freestyle for DJ Clue, which I'm guessing is from around 97-98, shows why people were so hyped for some official material.
Soon I'll be posting the legendary freestyle session on Hot 97 where he went back to back with Noreaga and DMX for about half an hour. In the meantime, heres 'Bis going off over '97 Mentality' and 'Incarcerated Scarfaces'...
