Black Rob live at The Tunnel (2000)
BR doing his 'Can I Live' verse over the Deep Cover and Simon Says beats live at The Tunnel before launching into 'I Love You Baby'.
If there's anything in that sentence that doesn't scream "awesome" at you then you aren't wanted around these parts.
I want one of those Bad Boy jackets.

Bit of a strange one this. If I remember right, its taken from an edition of Kiss FM's breakfast show (then presented by Dave Pearce) that was broadcast live from New York.

Mr 45 & Kittison freestyle on Kiss FM (1993)
Some UK heat here, with Nottingham's Mr 45 and Kittison rhyming live on Max & Dave's Kiss FM show...
DOWNLOAD
There wasn't a lot of quality Rap music coming out of the UK in the early 90s. As I think I've mentioned before, the scene's golden era of the late 80s had given way to the dance music explosion at the turn of the decade. However, these two (alongside producer Joe Budha) dropped a solid EP that I still play to this day. The Radford EP is well worth a purchase if you come across it and in the dope 'Radford' contains what might be one of the earliest examples of what would eventually become known as 'Road Rap'. London Posse and one or two others aside, it was pretty rare for UK artists to come with anything that thugged out back then.

Sparkle Motion 'Miracle Blends' (2013)
Time to lace up those Timbs, throw on a Champion hoodie and get ya
Eastcoast Stomp on... Sparkle Motion are back with "MIRACLE BLENDS".
TOBES and DJ Yoda cut, mix and scratch their way through an hour of "Yo!
MTV Raps" staples, blending Hip-Hop and R&B acapellas with
instrumentals, originals and remixes - with a few surprises thrown in
along the way. "Miracle Blends" was inspired by the legendary New York
City tape-masters of the early 90s like Ron G, Kid Capri and Doo Wop...

DJ Step One - The Infinite Hip Hop Show 13.01.13
Last night's show on Kane FM. The first hour includes that new Noreaga (I couldn't get used to calling him NORE, let alone 'Papi') and Large Pro joint 'Built Pyramids' which I'm loving right now. The last 45 minutes or so is strictly 1990-91 selection. I'm up there again next Sunday night so tune in if you can.

DJ Kam - Indie Hip Hop mix (2008)
You might recognise the name DJ Kam from his work on a variety of releases, his DJ crew Beyond There or maybe you just copped some vinyl from him when was behind the counter at the legendary Mr Bongo in London's West End. Whilst browsing through his sadly defunct blog yesterday, I came across this mix of 90s indie joints and as the download link was still live (5 years after he posted it - DivShare stand up!) I thought I'd share it. This was the sound and era most people will associate Mr Bongo with so there's few more qualified to put something like this together...

DJ Step One - Thoughtful Thugz (2013)
There's definitely a theme running through this mix but I'm not exactly sure how to best define it. Its a bit touchy-feely in places but its not Emo. It's what I'd call "concious rap" if that term hadn't already been vilified beyond belief. Anyway, take a listen and hopefully you'll see what I was aiming for.

Red Alert on Kiss FM (1992)
So far, this is probably my favourite tape out of the bunch Tobes gave me last month. Red Alert gets busy live on NYC radio in November 1992. Lots of treats on this plus a couple of songs I didn't recognise - can anyone ID the 'Give Me The Night' sampling track on side A?
DOWNLOAD
I knew this was gonna be a good when the adverts at the start included a St Ides commercial by Willie D. That was (suprisingly) followed by Red dropping 'Secrets (Of Success)' by the UK's own Cookie Crew and then into some Ice Cube, Nice & Smooth and Brand Nubian. On side B you'll find Scarface, Gang Starr, D Nice and Slick Rick amongst others. Vintage stuff and highly recommended.
Because I know certain completist rap nerd types out there will want it, I seperated that Willie D/St Ides joint. You can download that here

Chad Jackson - Best Of Hip Hop '87
Former DMC champion (and now one of my fellow Kane FM DJs) Chad Jackson recently delved into his archives and posted this 25 year old, 20 min megamix on his Soundcloud page.
Best Of Hip Hop 87
Completed using 1 x Revox B99 reel to reel recorder, 2 x Technics SL1200's, standard DJ Mixer, and lots and lots of vinyl in December 1987 at DMC HQ in Slough! Also much 1/2inch tape, reams of editing tape and loads of razor blades.
These were very basic times, indeed.
Most of you will remember him for this. I bought it on 7" when it came out and it still rocks the party 24 years later. I think Im on my 3rd 12" copy now.
Also available is Chad's Best Of 88 Rap mix
