Beat Junkies & Da Beatminerz live in LA (2009)

Live club set by The Beat Junkies and Da Beatminerz from a couple of months back. Its starts off with DJ Babu on the wheels and Mr. Choc on the mic. Then Da Beatminerz take over with Mr Walt & Evil D in the mix. Crazy Bizarro & Rhettmatic host the rest of the evening.
You know these guys have deep crates when they're using acapellas like 'Nuthin But A G Thang' and 'Mama Said Knock You Out'. Never heard those used before! Sounds like a wicked party...

I spotted this over at J Rocc's blog. It was originally uploaded as one large file here but as its just short of 2 hours I've seperated it into 2 parts for those of you that copy files onto CDs.

Sparkle Motion 'Flight School Volume 2'

This is the second installment of 'Flight School' by Sparkle Motion aka
Tobes and DJ Yoda. I'll let them tell it:

"By the power of jheri curl juice, Sparkle Motion (DJ Yoda & TOBE$) are back with more synthesized fire to take you higher and higher!

After the phenomenal success of Vol. 1, step on board for another hour of 80s R&B breaks - no vocals, just uptempo boogie bangers and slow jam burners for you to break out the scented oils to"

"Hang tight for the second volumes of "New Jack City" and "Slow Jamz", and a new series "Miracle Blendz".

Sparkle Motion are the new Bell Biv Devoe! (But DJs)."

Derek B RIP (1965-2009)

UK Hip Hop pioneer Derek B passed away from a heart attack in the early hours of this morning. For those that dont know, he was the first UK rapper - and one of the first rappers - to perform on Top Of The Pops, had a series of big singles around 88-89 and was the first UK artist to be signed to Russell Simmons' Rush Management company (home to Public Enemy, LL Cool J and Run DMC).
He was definitely a favourite of mine when I was growing up and I was fortunate enough to meet him a couple of years ago when he was selling off some of his vinyl. He came across as a nice bloke and even bust a verse of 'Bad Young Brother' acapella for me and my mate!

Condolences to his family.

Common 'I Used To Love Her' (Sir Charles remix)

Here's a bootleg remix of Common's classic (and often imitated) concept track 'I Used To Love Her'. Its taken from this 12" and uses the beat from Warren G & Nate Dogg's 'Nobody Does It Better'. Common's flow fits nicely over that G-Funk beat.

Lord Finesse - World Series: Out The Blue (1996)

Another Lord Finesse mix, this time an upfront selection from 1996. Side A is strictly Hip Hop and features Artifacts, Ghostface, Natural Elements and MOP. The flipside is more chilled out with Faith Evans, D'Angelo and Keith Sweat.
Sound quality isn't flawless on this but it definitely has that authentic cassette feel to it!

This is another one from DJ MK's collection.
