J Rocc & Rhettmatic 'Dynamic Duo' (1997)

More 90s Beat Junkie mixtape action. I'm guessing this is from early '97 as J Rocc's side seems to feature joints from '96 but Rhettmatic has a few '97 bits on his half.

Big Daddy magazine "Vol 1: Off The Ropes" (2001)

Another one I found during last week's CD clear out. This was a compilation given away free with UK rap mag Big Daddy. I'm pretty sure the P Brothers had some involvement with this - they certainly had a hand in the intro - but the Discogs entry credits the magazine's editor George Mahood with compiling the selection of funk, breaks and US and UK Hip Hop...

Kane FM survey

After a few years of sharing all these tapes, records and freestyles I'm finally going to ask for a little something from you in return. If you can spare a minute of your time please click here and complete this brief survey for Kane FM. If you ever listened to my show (or any others) the feedback is really important to the station and OFCOM. If you want to use the comments section to tell them how great I am and that they need more Hip Hop shows that wouldn't be a problem :)
Thanks in advance.

Total Eclipse & Mista Sinista
'X Men Xtravaganza' (1996)

Dope tape from 96 by 2 members of the infamous X Men crew (later to be know as The X-Ecutioners). Nicely mixed and they don't overdo the cuts and juggles. Expect some Mobb Deep, Big Noyd, Foxy Brown, Lil Kim, Wu Tang and whatever else was popping off back then...

Thanks again to Tobes for this one

'The Best Of Sadat X' mixed by Lenny D (2006)

I found this whilst sorting out my CDs earlier in the week. Sadat is one of the more underrated rappers out there and this is a decent collection of some of his best material...

J Rocc & The Beat Junkies 'Breaking Atoms' (1996)

Another one out of Tobes' collection. Quality isnt amazing but I've done what I could with it. As you'd expect, the mix is peppered with weird samples and skits throughout - I'm not entirely sure whats going on at the end of the first side but side 2 has a pretty dope old school section halfway through.

Dont pay too much attention to the tracklist - there's loads of other stuff crammed on there.

I'm on Kane FM tonight from 9-11pm UK time with some new stuff and some classics. Join me if you can.

DJ Sandman freestyles 12" (1996)

I posted the joints on this 12" about 4 years ago, but they were ripped straight from my hissy copy of Sandman's 'Volume 120' mixtape. Having recently copped the record pictured, I thought you might like an upgrade to the improved vinyl version. Exclusive freestyles-that-are-almost-proper-songs from Channel Live, Smoothe Da Hustler, Q Tip and X Clan.

Cormega 'Big Beat' (1998)

Here's one I picked up whilst out digging last week. Cormega rapping over a few different Biggie instrumentals...

Not gonna lie, I was expecting it to be something using 'Big Beat' by Billy Squire but this'll do nicely.

Fat Joe, Charlie Brown & Red Hot Lover Tone freestyle on Hot 97 (1994)

Been a while since I had any radio freestyles for you so here's an obscure one. Joey Crack, C-Boogie Brown & Red Hot Lover Tone in a cipher on Hot 97.

In the years that followed these 3 would all see their careers follow different paths. Tone obviously went on to be responsible for a gazillion platinum records as part of Trackmasters, and of all the rappers that were around in 93/94, I dont think many people would've picked Fat Joe to be the one still dropping albums on a major label 20 years later. Its a shame Charlie Brown's solo career didnt take off though as I'm sure he had some good material in him. If anyone has a good quality version (ie not the Westwood tape rip) of 'Whatcha Gonna Do For Me' - the '95 track he did over the same beat Craig Mack used for 'Makin Moves With Puff', then hook me up!
