Been a while since I posted anything but not really had anything of note to share (mostly been messing around with acapellas on Twitter). My man at Grime & Lime kindly sent me over a couple of tapes including this Red Alert mix on Kiss FM's Mastermix Dance Party from December 1989 so here you go.
I have been trying to source more tapes - they are out there - but it's easier said than done. Hopefully someone comes through soon. If you've got some you'd like to get digitised get in touch.
Another one from the Yoda collection. Uncle Red on Kiss FM, this time from 1990 and the selection is ridiculously classic. If you don't enjoy hearing Spread Love with a "45 King exclusive" drop on it then you might be dead inside.
Kool DJ Red Alert on WKRS in December 1990. Another one where I'm not entirely sure of the original source as I just found it on a CDR with some other bits from 2007.
Kool DJ Red Alert in the mix on Kiss 98.7 FM back in '94. Like the other Red tapes I've heard, there's no talking (and even some of the drops are pretty quiet) but the selection is on point. I've taken a guess at the date, based partly on the 30 minutes of a Flex Street Jams show on the same tape. Liking that Markey Fresh track produced by 45 King. Not heard it before but going to seek that out.
30 minutes of Red Alert in the mix on Hot 97. It's a bit scrappy - whoever recorded it got far too trigger happy with the pause button which rendered the other side of the tape useless - but still worth a listen. It is Red Alert after all...
90 minutes of Red Alert getting busy on NYC radio back in 1990, dropping Poor Righteous Teachers, LL, JVC Force, Brand Nubian, KRS and more. Classic material.
(theres a possibility it might actually be Sammy B from Jungle Brothers on the tables but as I don't know for certain and its got Red's promos at the start I'm going with the Propmaster)
So far, this is probably my favourite tape out of the bunch Tobes gave me last month. Red Alert gets busy live on NYC radio in November 1992. Lots of treats on this plus a couple of songs I didn't recognise - can anyone ID the 'Give Me The Night' sampling track on side A?
I knew this was gonna be a good when the adverts at the start included a St Ides commercial by Willie D. That was (suprisingly) followed by Red dropping 'Secrets (Of Success)' by the UK's own Cookie Crew and then into some Ice Cube, Nice & Smooth and Brand Nubian. On side B you'll find Scarface, Gang Starr, D Nice and Slick Rick amongst others. Vintage stuff and highly recommended.
Because I know certain completist rap nerd types out there will want it, I seperated that Willie D/St Ides joint. You can download that here
Red Alert and DJ Enuff getting busy on New York's Kiss FM back in 1994. Includes music by Bush Babees, ADOR, Mad Lion, Biggie, Da Youngstas and Troubleneck Brothers.
