Radio 1 Rap Show 26.10.96
with Ghostface, Cappadonna & Jeru The Damaja
More Westwood action. The previous night had been a Live To The UK jam broadcast from Adrenalin Village in Chelsea where Ghost & Cappa performed. I posted the tape of that years ago (and it's also been added to the Hip Hop Radio Archive and the Mixcloud page). Off the back of that someone sent me the freestyle where Jeru is also in the house. Now, over 10 years later, I finally have 90 minutes of the show for you. Bobby J is in the mix for the first part, before then you get the freestyle and live callers in the second half.
Shout to DJ Kryptonn for the rip.

Westwood live from Notting Hill Carnival '95
with Jeru The Damaja & Mad Lion
I've posted parts of this tape over the years but here's the full 2 hour show (now in 320), with Jeru and Mad Lion performing and Westwood and his crew running through a ton of rap, ragga, miami bass and R&B. Whistles and horns are in full effect and the reactions to certain tunes really let you know what was big on the street at the time, as opposed to an extensive twitter debate with William from Worcestershire who's adamant everyone was listening to Outkast and Jay Z back then and GZA and Smoothe Da Hustler was just some backpack shit.
Also, I know it's (finally fucking) February but you can pretend it's August.
I've got the Carnival '96 tape so I'll post that up at some point. Anyone holding 1997? I'm not sure if they did a live broadcast for that one.

Mr Choc & DJ E-Man - Friday Nite Flavas on Power 106 (1996)
Nice to get my hands on some 90s West Coast radio for a change. It definitely wasn't easy to come by in the UK and isn't widely shared online as far as I can tell. This was one of a couple of tapes of Power 106 in LA that Diablo hooked me up with. Mr Choc of the Beat Junkies hosts with DJ E-Man on the tables (who seems to be in the stations in-house mix DJ) and Jeru The Damaja is their guest. Akinyele is announced as being on the show as well but unfortunately doesn't appear on this recording. E-Man is nice in the mix and I'll be posting more from him soon.

Capital Rap Show 17.06.94
with Jeru The Damaja
Jeru in the studio with Westwood promoting his upcoming debut LP. The recording (courtesy of that man Diablo) has been pause buttoned a few times but you get a decent chunk of the interview and some proper bangers either side of it.
I loved 'Sun Rises...' and probably played it as much as Illmatic when it came out. Premier on his A-game and no skippable tracks. It was one of those releases where mixtape and radio DJs were playing several tracks off it rather than just the lead single. I know everyone enjoys the Group Home album but this was much better IMO.

Radio 1 Rap Show 19.03.99 - New York Live with Jeru, Black Moon, DJ S&S and Truck Turner
Even though I didn't catch many of them at the time, I'm starting to think that Westwood's New York Live shows with Marley are better than his Rap Exchange shows with Flex. DJ S&S is on the 1210s for a bit and all the guests drop freestyles on this one, with Craig G stepping up to rhyme alongside Truck Turner and Jeru. Pete Rock and TJ Swann are also in the studio. I imagine the #bantz was in full flow.

Vinyl Reanimators remixes 12" (1997)
All the Vinyl Reanimators remixes are worth investigating. Here's a 12" they dropped in late 96/early 97 with their takes on 'Drop A Gem On Em', 'Daytona 500' and 'Ya Playin Yaself'. Instrumentals included.

Jeru The Damaja live at Notting Hill Carnival (1995)

With Notting Hill Carnival fast approaching I thought I'd dig out a couple of recordings from when Radio 1 broadcast the highlights of Tim Westwood's stage.
This first one is a 20 minute live set from Jeru The Damaja, with Afu Ra on hypeman duties...
