On this day back in the 1-9-9-9, Redman and Method Man are in the house with Westwood to promote the Blackout album, kick a freestyle, and we even get an impromptu DJ set from Redman (presumably with Tim's records). On top of that D'Angelo stops by for an interview right at the end of the show. What more do you want?

Ghostface & Cappadonna - Choice FM freestyle (1996)
Quick Ghostface and Cappadonna freestyle going in over the Hell On Earth instrumental on 279's Friday Night Flavas back in October '96.
This would've been around the time Ironman dropped as they also hit Westwood's show during their visit to London.

DJ Filthy Rich -
Supreme Clientele: 20th Anniversary mix
Filthy Richard done did it again. I hit him up about doing this towards the end of last year when I realised the 20th anniversary of Ghost's sophomore album was coming up, and he had already set the wheels in motion. This dropped last week so here's the link if you didn't check it out already.

Radio 1 Rap Show 26.10.96
with Ghostface, Cappadonna & Jeru The Damaja
More Westwood action. The previous night had been a Live To The UK jam broadcast from Adrenalin Village in Chelsea where Ghost & Cappa performed. I posted the tape of that years ago (and it's also been added to the Hip Hop Radio Archive and the Mixcloud page). Off the back of that someone sent me the freestyle where Jeru is also in the house. Now, over 10 years later, I finally have 90 minutes of the show for you. Bobby J is in the mix for the first part, before then you get the freestyle and live callers in the second half.
Shout to DJ Kryptonn for the rip.

Ol Dirty Bastard on the Radio 1 Rap Show (1995)
Yes it's another R1RS post. Big woop, wanna fightaboudit? Not got time for much else at the moment and despite the plethora of fantastic topics and ideas for posts that come to me during the day, I never actually get round to writing them up. I did manage to post up a list of my favourite dis tracks on Twitter (spoiler: Ether and Takeover aren't included) that sparked a healthy reaction, but also replies like: "no 2nd Round KO?". It was very much off the top of the head but apart from missing out Real Muthafuckin Gz' it's mostly accurate. Anyway, on a related note I have recently noticed that my blog posts have been getting less hits (too much Westwood perhaps ?), and the engagement seems to centre more around the Mixcloud pages and Twitter. I'll continue to use this as the hub for now, but once I get to the 1000 post/10 year mark in March next year I may well call it a day on this here blogspot. I'm about to go and pick up a bunch of tapes that look severely classic, plus I still have the collection of Westwood tapes from 99-02 to work through (happy to a break from those to be honest - despite the gems I've come across, the shows overall weren't quite as exciting by the turn of the century) so material isn't an issue, but the aforementioned Mixcloud pages alongside the Hip Hop Radio Archive might be the way to go. If they ever get shutdown I'm throwing everything out of the window. Feedback and financial incentives to keep going on here are always welcome.
Big-ish Statement over with, the show above is from Spring '95 (I'm guessing June - anyone got a date?) with ODB counting down the Top 10 at 10 with Buddha Monk alongside him. Entertaining stuff plus they start freestyling over the ends of tracks on a few occasions.
Junior Mafia - Player's Anthem
Kaotic Stylin - Get In Where You Fit In
Crooklyn Dodgers - The Return Of The Crooklyn Dodgers
Keith Murray - This That Hit
AZ - Sugarhill
KRS One - MCs Act like They Don't Know
ODB & Buddha Monk - freestyle
Doug E Fresh - Where's The Party At
Raekwon & Ghostface - Criminology
ODB - freestyle
Method Man & Redman - How High
ODB & Buddha Monk freestyle
GZA - Labels
ODB - freestyle
That Doug E Fresh track seems to be on every Top 10 throughout mid 1995. God knows what that chart was based on.
oh, I also up'd this Marley Marl show from '98 which I posted way way back in the early days but it's now in one big stream-friendly file.

Radio 1 Rap Show 08.02.03
with Rah Digga & Phi Life Cipher
This one starts off with In Da Club and the first of many remixes that would follow. I still love the Budden/Paul Cain/Fab version that's played here (and would appreciate a CDQ if anyone can hook that up) but Bubba Sparxxx 'In The Mud' wasn't bad either I guess. This show must also be one of the first times Dipset Anthem gets a spin so that's a Big Moment for The Culture right here.
Rah Digga is the studio followed by Phi Life Cipher right at the end and Tim goes in the archives and airs the legendary Wu Tang appearance from '97 where Meth, ODB and RZA take over the phones, which you've probably heard before but is some straight radio gold every time.

DJ 279 on Choice FM (2004)
Some 2004 Friday Night Flavas for you, with a few Wu Tang members on the phone and tunes by Jadakiss, Masta Ace, Masta Killa and Lloyd Banks, as well as 'Cry' by Swiss which must be the best So Solid Crew related track by some distance.
Liking this Love Unlimited sampling track 15 minutes in. Thought I recognised the rapper but turns out it's someone I've never heard of.

Radio 1 Rap Show 15.12.01
with Nas, Pete Rock & Inspectah Deck
Big episode of New York Live here, with Tim and Marley hosting Nas just as Stillmatic was about to drop and the beef with Jay Z was in full swing. Pete Rock shows up for a quick interview in part 2, followed by Inspectah Deck and U God repping the Wu ahead of the release of Iron Flag.
Iron Flag seems like the most maligned or even somewhat forgotten Wu album but Rules, In The Hood and Uzi (Pinky Ring) are all solid Wu bangers. Don't sleep.

Method Man 'PLO Style' Frankenstein remix (1996)
I haven't come across many bootleg remix 12"s recently but I picked up this 4 tracker of remixes by Canada's Frankenstein last week and his take on this track off Meth's debut LP (and b-side to Bring The Pain) was the standout cut. If you like that dusty mid 90s sound you'll probably enjoy this...
I'm not that familiar with much of Frankenstein's catalogue but 'Sparkin Intellect' remains a favourite from back in the day. Based on that track alone he's almost certainly the best rapper to come out of Toronto.
I'll drop the INI 'Fakin Jax' remix off the same 12" at some point. Unfortunately the record fair where I made the purchase had (intentionally?) pretty poor lighting so I didn't realise the vinyl was a bit more busted than I'd usually find acceptable. The Nas remix is far too crackly to bother digitizing but isn't anything special anyway and I'm not a huge fan of the Das EFX track.

RZA ft Method Man, E40, WC, Crooked I & Jayo Felony 'We Pop' remix (2003)
"this is a Power 106 exclusive..."
I remember getting the promo 12" for the original version of 'We Pop' sent to me and not being particularly impressed with it. RZA and ODB on the same track with no other Clan members to bring a bit of style and finesse to proceedings wasn't really doing it for me at the time. This remix on the other hand, which surfaced some time later, definitely hit the mark. RZA enlists the stellar line up of WC, E40, Crooked I, Jayo Felony and Method Man to do their thing over the same beat...
The odd thing about this is that it's basically a straight jack of 'Bad Boy For Life', and like that track, its also produced by Megahertz. Not sure what the full story is behind that but RZA does take a sly shot at Diddy with his opening line.
I've only come across the song in 2 places, initially on a Kay Slay tape and then on this bootleg 12", which seems like it doesn't turn up too often judging by Discogs.

Ghostface Killah - No Pork On My Fork (2004)
Kay Slay hosting a best of Ghostface mix. What else do you need to know before you click the link?
DOWNLOAD
I didnt scan the tracklist as in true mixtape fashion it's not entirely accurate, but as pretty much everything in the GFK catalogue could warrant inclusion on a CD like this it's not that important (I labelled all the files correctly anyway).
You can still get my 'Tony Starks Collection' of unreleased/obscure/non-LP etc Ghostface cuts here.
Hopefully. Links seem to die stupidly quickly these days.

OB4ZL presents: The Tony Starks Collection

There's alot of Ghostface Killah material from the early/mid 00s that didn't make it onto Bulletproof Wallets and The Pretty Toney Album. Some appeared by way of mixtapes and 12" singles but this was back when some things that dropped on vinyl didnt always find their way onto the internet, at least not without Kay Slay or Clue shouting all over it. With that in mind, I've hooked up this compilation of GFK joints for you. A few of these got full releases, but you might have missed them, and others were only available 12"s of questionable origin...
DOWNLOAD
Tracklist
1 - The Watch ft Raekwon
One of my favourite GFK joints, utilising the same Barry White sample that Nas used on 'No Ideas Original'
2 - Cherchez La Ghost (Heartbeat remix) ft U-God
The idea of U-God on a certified club hit still seems strange now but it definitely happened. This remix (unreleased as far as I'm aware) flips Taana Gardner's classic 'Heartbeat' to nice effect.
3 - Good Times part II
I posted this up a few months back when I picked up the bootleg 12". A different take on the more well known version, with no Raekwon and a slighty different (better) beat.
4 - Live From The PJs w/ The X-Ecutioners, Trife & Black Thought
From the DJ crew's 2nd LP, going for that live park jam feel. A precursor of sorts to 'In The Park' (which also featured Black Thought) off the 'Apollo Kids' album.
5 - Face Off w/ Scarface
Collabs like these dont always add up to the sum of their parts. Especially when they're being donated to a third party. This track from Kay Slay's 2nd album is one of the exceptions to the rule. Very dope.
6 - Pretty Tony Shoulda...
The De La Soul dis track. Essentially the verse from 'He Comes' off De La's 'The Grind Date' album, but with some added beef.
7 - Guerilla Hood
I love this track. It was the standout on the patchy Theodore Unit album from 2004. Still sounds strange hearing it without Kay Slay yelling over it though.
8 - Mighty Healthy (DJ Step One blend)
Using the instrumental from Pete Rock's 'We Roll'. Ghost fits nicely over the Kool & The Gang loop. One of my favourite blends
9 - No, No, No
This was one was 12" only as far I remember. Ghost over Dawn Penn's reggae hit. I frequently used to throw this on alongside shit like Sean Paul and Kevin Lyttle when I was DJing Top 40/R&B nights way back when.
10 - Smith Brothers ft Trife
According to Discogs the Theodore Unit album only has the clean mix of this so here's the dirty version.
11 - Kay Slay freestyle ft Trife
Another one I posted up some time ago, as part of my Kay Slay freestyles compilation. Ghost & Trife go in over EPMD's 'You're A Customer'.
12 - The Drummer ft Method Man, Trife & Street Life
13 - Got Gats ft Solomon Childs & Killer Bamz
I'd ripped these off 12" and already uploaded this comp when I realised they're also on the Theodore Unit CD. I thought I'd leave em in as they're solid enough and I cant imagine many people bump '718' on the regular.
14 - Set It Off
Also off the afore mentioned vinyl. This is Ghost & Trife over the instrumental from one of Big Daddy Kane's finest moments.
15 - Run ft Jadakiss & Comp
This is the version which includes the additional third verse by Comp (who was on Def Jam at the time). I've been asked for it a few times as it seems it was only on the UK promo of 'Tush'.
