Capital Rap Show 19.11.93 with Onyx

"we just found out about somethin we don't like out here, knowumsayin, called the BNP or summ'n like that, and we ain't havin it..."

Onyx pass through Westwood's show on a Friday night in 1993 having just performed on The Word (here on youtube at 3:30). They mention they had a 2nd album with a planned release date for early 94 and it wasn't called All We Got Iz Us so who knows what became of that and whether it was scrapped, pushed back or they just changed the title.

As usual with these shows from the early 90s, there's always at least 1 track I don't recognise. This time it was Run Don't Stop by Forte, which is an early Funkmaster Flex production. Shout out to Rob Pursey for the knowledge on that one.

Another one out of the RRR collection - limited edition Live On Air mixtape available now!

Tim Westwood - Capital Rap Show (1993)

Vintage Westwood now, courtesy of Tobes. This is 90 minutes of the Capital Rap Show from August September 93. Snoop had just been arrested for murder and Doggstyle hadn't even hit the shelves, but Westwood debuts 'Whats My Name' aswell as tunes by Scarface, Illegal, Erick Sermon, LONS, London Posse and KRS One...

There's also a 3 minute Onyx promo over Sister Nancy's 'Bam Bam' (or Tenor Saw's 'Ring The Alarm' if you prefer) .

Sticky Fingaz 'Jackin For Beats' (1999)

Back in '99, Onyx's front man set off his solo career with this dope white label, throwing a few shots at a newcomer called 50 Cent over a barrage of late 90s Tunnel bangers.

For the uninitiated, 50 had worked with Onyx in '98 as they both came up under Jam Master Jay. He then signed with Trackmasters and dropped the excellent 'How To Rob' which caused a few rappers (namely Sticky, Raekwon, Ghostface and Jay Z) to catch feelings. I thought that was kind of stupid given that the chorus was 'This aint serious/being broke can make you delerious' but thats rappers for you.

The Unstoppable Def Jam Sampler (1999)

The late 90s saw Def Jam reclaim their spot at the top of the industry following a few years of dominance by Bad Boy and Death Row. The addition to the roster of the Rocafella and Murder Inc imprints alongside DMX and Redman & Method Man meant they pretty much had the East Coast locked down. This promo CD has a few things that weren't available elsewhere and is well worth checking out...
